As big as Homer?

Roman Receptions of Sappho

As big as Homer?

Book launch of the Roman Receptions of Sappho, (Oxford University Press, 2019), with the editors Dr. Thea Selliaas Thorsen (NTNU) and Prof. Stephen Harrison (Univ. of Oxford), introduced by Dr. Paola D’Andrea (NTNU).

The Ancient Greek Sappho was the greatest female poet of antiquity, but only a few of her poems have been completely preserved, with some recent discoveries. This volume looks at her surprisingly large impact on the literary culture of very macho Ancient Rome.
