Anyuan Chen mottok sin B.Sc fra Wuhan University of Techology (WUT), Kina, M.Sc fra The Royal Insttitute of Technology (KTH), Sverige, og PhD fra Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norge. Han gjorde også forskningsarbeid som postdoktor i NTNU.
