The research group in systematics and taxonomy at the Museum of Natural History and Archaeology in Trondheim consists of botanists and zoologists at the Section of Natural History. Our research projects involve studies on a variety of organisms ranging from mosses and marine polychaetes to insects like butterflies and non-biting midges. The research group attempts to focus on problems of macroevolutionary character such as species delimitation, phylogenetic relationships and morphological and molecular evolution between species, genera and families. To solve our problems and test our hypotheses we use both morphological and molecular data in our character- and phylogenetic analyses.

We wish to attach more students to our research group, and a course in theoretical taxonomy and systematics as well as various master projects are offered at the Department of Biology, NTNU by the group members.
