| Introduction | Freshwater Biology Research Group
Goals: One of the goals is to achieve better knowledge on the distribution of limnic invertebrates and vertebrates, and their ecological preference and tolerance. This is important for the understanding of zoogeographical and ecological problems, as well as for nature conservation and management. Especially in connection with man-made habitat destruction and possible climatic changes in the future, it seems important to know the present status and habitat of the various species. In order to reach the goal, the production of taxonomic keys for all invertebrate groups is important. In close contact with the Nature managing authorities, developers of hydroelectric power, and others, the members aim at being a leading group of scientists on the topics of conservation biology mentioned above, e.g. faunal responses to hydropower regulations and other changes in the watercourse, fish migration, eutrophication and new species. In addition comes taxonomic and zoogeographical expertise.
Research topics: Distribution of freshwater fauna, Plankton communities, Bottom faunas, Lotic invertebrates, Fish migration, Effects of river regulation, Impacts of hydropeaking, Indtroduced species, Trophic levels, Nutrient enrichment |
