Faglig innhold

Introduction to the history and hierarchy of the oil and gas industry in Norway. Classification of various hydrocarbons (oil and gas). Overview of the main production process (e.g., well related production topside, separation of different media, crude handling, gas compression, gas treatment, and injection of gas and water). PID Overview of the systems supporting the production process (e.g., cooling and heating medium, chemical injection, flaring, chlorination, and various water treatment systems). Operations performed from exploration to production (e.g., geology, different types of wells, drilling procedures, and well structures/wellheads) Offshore structures and considerations on implementing structures according to field specifications (e.g., anchoring systems, floating and stationary platforms, FPSO, Jack-ups, and subsea installations). Marine operations: how to plan and perform work in marine environment and conditions. Maintenance and modifications of offshore structures and materials technology. Safe production, with a focus on health, safety, and environment (HSE) (e.g., technical safety, external environment, and history of accidents and consequences). The standards and specifications used by the Norwegian oil and gas industry (NORSOK and others). Project models/types: How to work in complex projects (e.g., covering project planning and managing, consequences of delays, business models/structures in the oil and gas industry, understanding the role of each individual in the larger system, and the importance of team effort). The candidate is familiar with the multidisciplinary complexity of the Norwegian oil and gas industry.

The candidate can understand and use basic terminology that is utilized in the oil and gas industry.

The candidate is familiar with health, safety, and environment issues related to the oil and gas industry and can apply this in his/hers professional practice.

Læringsformer og aktiviteter

Lectures and exercises. The lectures will be conducted by professionals and industry partners. Mandatory interdisiplinary teamwork

Interdisiplinary project with presentation and report. written exercises 6 of 8 excercises must be apporoved. Permitted examination support material, Dictionary English-English and calculator (support material code A).
