Emil A. Røyrvik, 2011: The Allure of Capitalism. An Ethnography of Management and the Global Economy in Crisis.  The "managerial revolution," or the rise of management as a distinct and vital group in industrial society, might be identified as a major development of the modernization processes, similar to the scientific and industrial revolutions. Studying "transnational" or "global" corporate management at the post-millennium moment provides a suitable focal point from which to investigate globalized (post)modernity and capitalism especially, and as such this book offers an anthropology of global capitalism at its moment of crisis. This study provides ethnographically rich descriptions of managerial practices in a set of international corporate investment projects. Drawing also on historical and statistical data, it renders a comprehensive perspective on management, corporations, and capitalism in the late modern globalized economy. Cross-disciplinary in outlook, the book spans the fields of organization, business, and management, and asserts that now, in this period of financial crisis, is the time for anthropology to yet again engage with political economy.

This volume; Morality, Hope and Grief: Anthropologies of AIDS in Africa  brings together some of the best, most thoughtful scholarship on AIDS in Africa. The essays are grounded in the troubling economic realitiesand intimate moral politics of daily life amid widespread existential angst.

Beyond the visual

Beyond the visual. Sound and image in ethnographic and documentary film-NAFA5.

Redigert av Gunnar Iversen and Jan Ketil Simonsen. Jan Ketil Simonsen er førsteamanuensis på Sosialantropologisk institutt.

Ethnographic film has formed a central part in debates concerning the iconographic aspects of the image and how they convey a sense or sensation of authenticity or 'true' representation of reality. The main emphasis in much of the theorising has been on pictorial aspects rather than on sound. There is a lack of studies and theory looking into the significance of sound in general and its contribution to systems of meaning (in a semiological sense) in particular. While such discussions may, undoubtedly, serve different purposes in respective academic disciplines, there is a huge potential for cross-pollination of ideas. Film scholars may possibly learn something from visual anthropology about the importance of sound in human communication and ritual, and the creation of meaning and cosmologies, whilst visual anthropologists may learn something from film theorists and practitioners about the relationship between sound and image.

 Reveries of home

Reveries of Home: Nostalgia, Authenticity and the Performance of Place.

Redigert av Solrun Williksen and Nigel Rapport. Solrun Williksen er Professor Emeritus ved Sosialantropologisk institutt.

Reveries of Home considers understandings of home in the world today and the means by which feelings of homeliness are secured. In particular, the volume explores the relationship between the phenomenon of globalisation and the ways in which home-making entails acts of practical and symbolic emplacement in landscapes felt to be meaningful and authentic.
