SIMlab has extensive experimental facilities for dynamic testing of materials, components, and structural subsystems.
Automotive application of a riveting system
New equipment
In 2007, emphasis was put on the definition and acquisition of new experimental equipment. including:
Self piercing riveting machine:A machine to carry out riveting of materials under industrial conditions from Böllhoff in Germany, which allows for the systematic study of the riveting process and the final connector strength and ductility. The static connector capacity can be studied for a variety of loading conditions.
Sheet metal forming machine:A multipurpose hydraulic sheet metal forming machine with 600kN load capacity (Zwick/Roell BUP 600) and multiple forming tools has been purchased. This machine is considered to be an ideal tool for advanced research on the fundamentals of forming and formability, for validation of constitutive models including fracture.
High resolution cameras:We have acquired two new high resolution cameras to carry out field measurements when using the Digital Image Correlation System.
