RIPENSA (Risk Psychology, Environment and Safety research group) - NTNU
Urgent global problems call for improved understanding of how humans think, feel and act with regard to risk, environmental problems and societal safety. The research team for Risk Psychology, Environment and Safety focuses on linking risk, environment and safety issues on the basis of an interdisciplinary knowledge platform. Human reactions are studied at the individual, group and societal levels. Knowledge and perspectives, mainly from the fields of social and environmental psychology, provide the theoretical and methodological basis for understanding research conducted in areas like: risk communication, risk perception, perception of the environment, behaviours related to environmental problems (e.g. transport and energy consumption), safety and security.
The RIPENSA research group was formed in 2007 and is organized within the Department of Psychology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, in Trondheim. Our main activities involve teaching and research. The personnel group includes five full time employees as well as time limited positions. The teaching tasks mainly involve supervision and courses at the Master's and Doctoral levels. The research projects vary over time, but basically aim at developing knowledge and practices within a larger cross-disciplinary and societal framework. Most of us have a basic training in psychology.
All persons in RIPENSA are related to broad national and international networks. The denominator guiding the work is the relationships between human beings and risk, safety and environmental issues. Current research projects involve collaborations within as well as outside of the group. A wide range of relevant environmental and societal issues provide the basis for the research topics in our projects. The focus can be theoretical or applied, the project work of shorter or longer duration, but they aim at gaining insights into human views and reactions relative specified problem areas or demands.
