Technology for our health Medical technology was established as a strategic area of research in 1999 to create opportunities for developing unique forms of multidisciplinary collaboration between respected research communities in medical technology. The aim is to develop new technological methods, materials and equipment for use in medical prevention initiatives as well as in diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation, and increased understanding of societal aspects of medical technology. Research and teaching in medical technology make it possible to cultivate and deliver expertise that contributes to commercial development and strengthens the Norwegian public health service.
Medical technology involves multidisciplinary collaboration between health professionals, biologists, technologists, and social scientists. The scope of medical technology is broad, and the main activities at NTNU, SINTEF and St. Olavs Hospital are reflected in the network groups .
