Department of Laboratory Medicine, Children's and Women's Health

The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Children’s and Women’s Health (LBK) encompasses teaching, research and development in a broad spectrum of laboratory and clinical specialties; Medical Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Clinical Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology, Pathology, Anatomy, Paediatric Medicine, Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

The Department works in close cooperation with the University Hospital in Trondheim, St. Olav’s Hospital, providing a unique opportunity for an integrated research-, teaching- and clinical environment.

The department has a particular responsibility for:

  • Molecular medicine with emphasis on the use of molecular genetic methods and functional genomic research in the clinical setting.
  • Biobanking in cooperation with The Nord-Trøndelag health study (HUNT) and the Regional Research Biobank of Central Norway
  • The Ultrasound Study, in collaboration with the National Centre for Foetal Medicine
