– with the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology
The Department of Structural Engineering teaches the fundamental courses in solid state mechanics for all engineering programmes at the faculty and NTNU. The department is particularly involved in the curriculum of the following masters study programmes for Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as the Master of Science in Engineering and ICT. The specialization Industrial Engineering also obtains a significant share of its instruction from the department.
Research activity at the department is quite varied, ranging from computational mechanics, load description, materials engineering, and specialized concrete engineering, to bio and nanoengineering. Our strength lies in the combination of numerical (program controlled) computations and experimental investigations conducted in a large, well-equipped laboratory.
Our collaborative research partners include SINTEF, Norsk Hydro and Statoil, in addition to actors in the building and construction industry, both large and small.
