Postgraduate School of Industrial Ecology (PSIE)

Overview

PSIE is a series of research training courses to develop the research skills and knowledge of early stage researchers in Industrial Ecology. PSIE targets Ph.D. candidates, young researchers and faculty members from throughout Europe who want to address sustainable production and consumption in their research. The series teaches participants cutting-edge research methods in Industrial Ecology and provides the skills and knowledge to implement research programs in sustainable production and consumption.

The courses run within the period of January 2007 to August 2008.
Application deadline: 1 November 2006

Course fee

PSIE is a researcher mobility measure of the Marie Curie programme of the European Commission. Eligible participants will receive support for travel and subsistence, and their course fee will be waived. There are 15 places for eligible stage 1 researchers (<4 years after receiving a diploma qualifying for PhD studies) and 5 places for stage 2 researchers (<10 years after receiving such a diploma). The EU supports up to 6 participants from countries outside the European Research Area. Participants are selected among the applicants on a competitive basis. Researchers who are not eligible or chosen for support (because the 20 places have been filled or the person has more than 10 years of experience) may still apply to participate on a self-pay basis. The course fee is €1500 per course. The participants are selected by the PSIE management taking into account the qualifications of the candidate and aiming for a gender and regional balance. Due to the progression in the series of courses, preference is given to participants who enroll in 3 or more courses. See funding information (Admission and Funding page).

Credits and workload

Each training course corresponds to 7.5 ECTS credits or one quarter of a semester. Each course includes two weeks of instructions/supervised work and three weeks of independent work in the form of reading, research and project work. The grading is usually based on a final project.
