Beacon of knowledge in Trondheim

NTNU wants to create a knowledge park in Trondheim on the historic site at Kalvskinnet.

The history of technology will be disseminated to the public, but not in any traditional way. According to the committee, the knowledge park is intended as a kind of laboratory for transmitting knowledge, a factory for the imagination, a centre of experience. The project is called Faros named after the colossal lighthouse outside Alexandria, the city of knowledge of the ancient world.
Faros will consist of several parts, one permanent part which will impart knowledge of technology in a surprising way, and another permanent part which will focus on Trondheim’s 800-year history as a centre of learning. This section is meant to show how changeable technology, art and other forms of understanding are. The third section of the park is to be known as a mediation laboratory, where teachers and students at NTNU can be employed for a period of 3 to 6 months, working to inform the general public about a range of subjects.
