Faster with FAST

The Internet company Fast Search & Transfer ASA (FAST), which was founded at NTNU, is one of the fastest growing IT-companies in the world. The key to its success is an efficient software system and a specially designed micro-processor for searching large databases. This is the technology that is used, among other places, in the leading file-search engine in the world (FTP Search, http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/), and formed the basis for a major agreement between FAST and the Internet giant Lycos in autumn 1998. The agreement led to enormous growth for the company.

In addition, FAST has constructed a new, world-famous search function for sound files in the popular MP3-format. In 1999, they launched a new Internet search engine (http://www.alltheweb.com), which, with its 200 million searchable documents, is one of the largest in the world. Also in 1999, FAST signed an agreement with Dell Computer Corporation, one of the leading hardware manufacturers in the world.
