Aerodynamic Laboratory
| The Aerodynamic Laboratory has four low speed wind tunnels designed for different types of investigations. The smallest tunnel has a test section of 0.45m x 0.45m x 2m and maximum velocity of 35 m/s while the largest tunnel has a test section of 2.7m x 1.8m x 11m and maximum velocity of 30 m/s. The laboratory also has two test rigs for pipe flows. A water tunnel with a test section of 0.15m x 0.15m x 2m is available for two phase- and particle flow studies. For compressible flows a compression tube supersonic wind tunnel capable of producing flows up to Mach number 3 is available.

| The laboratory has an almost unlimited source of probes and transducers for velocity measurements. These consist of pressure impact probes, single and multi-component Hot Wire Anemometry, 1 and 2 components Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Aspirating probes for measurement of gas concentrations down to 0.1% are available. A high resolution 6 component electronic wind tunnel balance is available for the largest wind tunnel and a 3 component mechanical balance is available for the smaller tunnels. A large number of high speed 12 bit data acquisition with signal conditioning amplifiers and filters are available capable of recording data continuously to disk at a rate up to 1 MHz. Two of the tunnels are fitted with fully automated 3 component probe traversing equipment. | |
