Fordypning i fasilitering

Emnet utvikles i samarbeid mellom IVR – Institutt for voksnes læring og rådgivningsvitenskap og EiT, og vil inneholde teori om gruppedynamikk og praktisk trening i fasilitering.

For å bli tatt opp som student i emnet må du:

1. Være kvalifisert for opptak på et masterstudium
2. Ha erfaring som LA i EiT

Undervisningen går over to semester og er obligatorisk. Hovedtyngden av undervisningen vil ligge på høsten (ca 30 timer), med bl.a. seminaret "Fasilitering i praksis 2". I vårsemesteret vil seminarene i hovedsak knyttes til teori om gruppedynamikk og erfaringene som fasilitator i EiT.

Ettersom undervisningen og sluttarbeidet baserer seg på praksis som fasilitator, anbefales det å være LA i EiT samtidig som du tar emnet. Arbeidet som LA i vårsemesteret (90 timer) er betalt.

RAD 3700 Fordypning i fasilitering av gruppeprosesser gir fritak fra emnet Eksperter i team, og kan inngå i mastervitnemålet som erstatning for EiT.

Course syllabus

RAD 3700 Advanced Foundations for Group Process Facilitation

Overview

This course builds on the initial training and experience of being an EiT learning assistant to go deeper into the art of facilitating group processes. The goal of the course is to give you deeper understanding of the dynamics underlying the facilitation of group processes through a mix of theory, practice and reflection. The idea behind the course is that there is a great deal more learning that can come about from repeating and deepening the experience of going through the EiT learning assistant training and doing this job a second time. With the addition of relevant theory, students can expect to have advanced skills in facilitation that can be of great use in working life.

This course is based upon reflection on experience. While theory is important to provide lenses with which to make better distinctions and interventions, it is not until these are applied and further, reflected upon that learning goes from head knowledge to embodied practice. In practice, this means that the main "work" of the course is working as a learning assistant in EiT. The nature of the final exam is such that it would be very difficult to imagine how one could do a good job on the exam without this practical application.

The course is divided into four half day seminars:

• The first will occur before the learning assistant training takes place. It is to introduce a new set of ideas around deepening facilitation and instructions on how to gain important learning from repeating the existing learning assistant training. (week 40)
• The second would take place at the end of the fall semester, and focus on learnings from repeating the LA training. It would include a short written assignment around reflections on this learning. (week 49)
• The third would occur mid-way through the spring term, and focus on reflecting on the initial application of course ideas in practice. (week 8)
• The fourth seminar would be at the end of the spring term, and include a short written assignment and further reflections on learnings. As well, it would include an oral interview to approve students for writing the exam. (week 17)

Some Comments on the Course

This course aims to offer opportunities for learning new skills through practice. This course is based on a number of propositions aimed at supporting such a process:

• That our individual and collective experience in this course will depend to a large degree on what we each put into it.
• That approaching the course topics with a "beginner's mind," or open mind will enable a greater degree of new learning to occur.
• That we all need to contribute to creating a supportive environment for experimenting with new ideas and behaviors.
• That learning is only partially about ideas and theories; being able to act more coherently in the world is a more complete kind of learning.

As with any attempt at new learning, experimentation is essential, and failures a necessary part of the process. We will learn together as we go along how to enable and enact our learning. The course structure, activities, readings and discussion are all designed to support our learning.

Evaluations/Grading/Required Elements

Students will be expected to attend at least 80% of classes and must hand in the two short written assignments (described in the first and third seminars) to write the final essay exam. A final exam/essay of 7-10 pages (1.5 line spacing) is required. This paper must include:

• A demonstration of understanding the theories covered in the course and how these theories can be applied in team/group facilitation situations;
• A description of the student's experience of applying these theories;
• A discussion of how the theory reflects on your experience of facilitation

Gruppesamtale med faglærer om fasilitering og gruppeprosesser, som må være godkjent før hjemmeeksamen kan leveres inn.

Læringsmål: Etter å ha fullført emnet Fordypning i fasilitering av gruppeprosesser, knyttet til emnet Eksperter i team, har studenten kunnskap og ferdigheter i å legge til rette for samarbeid i tverrfaglige grupper (fasilitering). Studenten behersker forskjellige metoder for observasjon av og intervensjon i tverrfaglige gruppers samarbeidsprosess. Studentens praksis er basert på kunnskap om teorier for hvordan og hvorfor fasilitering utføres, og gir et grunnlag for forståelse av fasiliteringen i Eksperter i team. Studentene kan praktisere intervensjon i tverrfaglige grupper som bidrar til at gruppene utvikler et effektivt gruppesamspill.

Faglig innhold: Emnet skal gi studenten teoretisk kunnskap om gruppers dynamikk. Emnet gir studenten trening i å dele observasjoner og stille åpne spørsmål på gruppenivå.

Læringsformer og aktiviteter: Undervisningen foregår som seminarer både i høst og vårsemesteret. Noen av seminarene foregår på engelsk.
