The vision behind the Centre for Conservation Biology at NTNU is to develop an interdisciplinary centre for research into dynamical changes in biological diversity at different organismic levels (genes, populations and communities), based on a common theoretical framework.
A strategic goal for the Centre is to extend existing theory by developing stochastic dynamic models of genetic and demographic mechanisms in populations and in communities of interacting species. The assumptions and predictions of these models are tested using a set of carefully selected empirical model systems, in both the field and laboratory.
A second strategic goal is to use models and empirical systems to address basic questions in ecology and evolution, as well as practical problems related to conservation of biological diversity at the national and international levels.
