SPACEBRAIN at the Weizmann Institute of Science

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot is one of Israel’s largest neuroscience environments housing a balanced mixture of theoretical and experimental groups. Misha Tsodyks is a professor at the Department of Neurobiology. He is a computational neuroscientist, specializing in a broad range of topics related to neural networks theory and neural computation and coding.

Misha Tsodyks is running a theoretical lab at the Department of Neurobiology of the Weizmann Institute. The lab currently includes 1 postdoc, 4 PhD students and 1 Msc student. It is equipped with a local network of desktop computers, and has an access to the supercomputing facilities of the Weizmann Institute.

Misha Tsodyks will be involved in the modeling work on spatial representation in hippocampus and enthorinal cortex, and in collaborating with experimental labs on designing theoretically-motivated experiments and analyzing their results. He will participate in the specification of short-term plasticity of synaptic connections in the enthorinal cortex and will study its effects on the dynamics of place-specific activity. He will also work on attractor neural network models of spatial representations in enthorinal cortex and hippocampus, and on the attempts of elucidating the neuronal mechanisms of phase precession effect with intra-cellular recordings.
