University of Science and Technology (NTNU), located in Trondheim, Norway, 3-5 research positions at postdoctoral level are available for outstanding researchers in the field of neural network functions. The Centre for Neural Computation is a recently established centre of excellence funded for 10 years by the Norwegian Research Council. We offer an international and multidisciplinairy environment in which creativity and scientific discourse is valued and stimulated. Through our widespread network of international collaborations, unique career possibilities are offered.
The positions will be associated with the Moser group. The group is interested in the fundamental neural computations underlying cognition and behaviour. To understand these computations, we focus on the mechanisms for mapping of local space in the mammalian cortex. Much of our work is focused on grid cells. Using a variety of experimental approaches, and collaborating with theoretical as well as experimental neuroscientists, we try to determine mechanisms of grid cell formation as well as the function of these cells in large cortical networks. The positions will be for up to 4 years.
We are searching for candidates with a strong interest in understanding the cortical organization and computation. Candidates must have a PhD degree or equivalent with a background relevant for systems neuroscience. We are looking for theoretically-minded candidates with strong but diverse experimental skills, including backgrounds from in vitro circuit studies, developmental studies, and molecular biology. An independent attitude is required. Candidates must be fluent in English and have a strong motivation to work as member of a team.
Your application - accompanied by a CV, short statement on future research ambitions, and names and contact details of at least two references - must be submitted through http://www.jobbnorge.no/job.aspx?jobid=94361
