Bakgrunn og aktiviteter

Stine H. Bang Svendsen is Associate Professor of Pedagogy at Programme for Teacher Education. Svendsen’s research focuses on how sexuality, gender, and race come to matter in current Nordic cultural politics and education. In 2014, she defended her doctoral thesis "Affecting Change? Cultural Politics of Sexuality and 'Race' in Norwegian Education". With Prof. Åse Røthing, she has written the book Seksualitet i skolen. Perspektiver på undervisning (Cappelen 2009) about sex education. She also writes about sexuality in Norwegian immigration policy, and the role of LGBT issues in new northern European racist discourses, and gender equality more generally. Svendsen's educational background is in American Studies (MA) and Gender Studies (BA), both from the University of Oslo. Her PhD is in gender studies, from NTNU. Among her most recent publications are ”Feeling at loss: Affect, Whiteness and Masculinity in the Immediate Aftermath of Norway’s Terror” in Affectivity and Race, Eds. R. Andreassen and K. Vitus, Farnham: Ashgate, 2015, and ”Learning Racism in the Absence of Race” in European Journal of Women’s Studies 21(1), 2014.
