Bakgrunn og aktiviteter
Nina Haarsaker is working at the Department of Architectural Design, Form and Colour Studies at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts, NTNU as assistance professor. She graduated from NTNU in 2001, after both philosophy studies and several years abroad studying architecture at UP Madrid, TU Delft and LTH Lund. She has professional experience from three years at local office Arkiplan in Trondheim working on school buildings and suburban large-scale building projects, and several years as self-employed,TiPi, with resent interesting housing project together with partner: http://aarstidshus.blogspot.no .
Nina started working at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts in 2001, teaching at several different basic and master courses, and has been course coordinator for the first year at the Master program in Architecture since 2013.
Key experience and field of interest:
She is special competence in
- Hands-on reflection: focus on learning by “making is thinking”.
- Creative processes, methods and tools for dealing with complexity, with a special attendance on methodes for dialogue between body and place.
- Collage, bri-collage- and continuous re-organization of the world.
- Creative group processes.
- Esthetic discourse.
Her didactical focus is on learning by doing- and social relations in a wide range, investigating ways of using theoretical experience-theories or notions like threshold concepts/ tacit knowledge and learning by reflecting on doing/ esthetical thinking/ soma-esthetic and body consciousness/ openness and lateral thinking, together with integral approach as architectonical tools. She advocates open reflection and "making is thinking", being everything from concrete FORM association exercises to working with materials, different styles, aesthetical attitudes and bodily habits.
In february 2017 Nina was once again invited to the university of Antwerpen together with collegaue Gro Rødne to participate as teachers on the International Design Workshop-week. This is a short Youtube- film from their work there, made by one of, as she says: "the super and dedicated students we met in this workshop",
Nina being part of the faculty`s TREE-GROUP. She has eight years of experience in full scale building with first year students, building with wood as material. She is recently updated on techniques for surfaces in charred wood, and clay plaster, through own artistic and practical research.
Continuously discussing architecture –the making and the and the meaning of FORM- with the next generation of architects.
Working in team with the interesting and open colleges at NTNU, finding frames for the next semester research, investigating together with students. Planning both a new master-course in “Making is thinking” and next “Making is thinking / experts in team” – course, after very good evaluation and feedback this spring.
EXTERNE WORKSHOPS 2016/ Trans Ark and "Making is thinking": in ADLS Antwerpen 6-11.Febraury, MIT Trondheim 9.mars both togheter with Johanna Gullberg/ at KTH Stockholm 4.april at Full Scale Studio Mastercourse invited by Malin Åberg Wennerholm and Ebba Hallin.
BLOG 2017: from the last housing project - aarstidshus.blogspot.com, on the topics of tectonics, local adaptation on place, energy usage, and processes. Short handbook on "HOW to work with clay plaster" and "HOW - charring of facade panel as surface treatment / Charred wood".
ICSA Conference 2016 on tectonics, with the paper “An Aesthetic Approach to Full scale Building in Teaching Architecture” with regional wood materials. The work investigates full-scale building as an educational tool by comparing learning outcome, discussing two different pedagogical attitudes in full scale building with students in light of theories of soma-esthetics and aesthetical theory. Keywords: action research through fullscale educational masterplans/ learning by doing/ process-thinking / reflecting on complexity through aesthetical thinking.
IDEAPROJECT 2015: "The Reuse house; house for elementary school and football club at Utleira" - the use of local materials; clay as a base.
