"It all begins with people, the life that will take place in the cities and the nature. How is it possible to affect or support the lives of people with a built environment? How can a building bring an atmosphere or a feeling that will inspire the user? We believe in the power of architecture, not only to fullfil a program or certain function, but to create spaces that makes the users engaged, inspired and participating. Lawrence Davis, an American architect and educator currently teaching in Florence at Syracuse University School of Architecture, has established a conceptual framework for his design work that acknowledges the presence of market economy in the contemporary built environment.

Prefabricated materials, often assembled in a random "cheap" configurations, space subdivisions dictated by real estate logics, urban developments adding up without a coherent overall plan: these are the conditions of contemporary "exurbia", an edge condition of contemporary settlements, deprived of urban fabric, that has found no identity yet. As a critical design method, Davis accepts and unveils the process of construction of this environment that, originated in the United States, is gradually spreading in the whole western world. He uses the term "collage" to stress the random ephemerality of the building process of exurbia and the assemblage of industrialized materials. Collage collapses seemingly different element in new groupings and, instead of been criticized as a senseless method, could become a process that constructs new interactive relationship among the "found" materials of market economy. Davis has experimented the collapse of new forms and materials in his design at the scale of the city in many urban projects, in a series of "additions" to standard suburban houses and in the construction of exhibition installations such as the Children Interactive Gallery at Everson Museum in Syracuse. To an architect's
eye, he adds a critical view that looks at contemporary conceptual art and is interested in "playing" the construction process of spaces involving its users to promote a critical view of them.

I forbindelse med gjennomføringen av prosjektet "My sunshine" her i Trondheim, ønsker han å rekruttere noen studenter til en workshop.
Forelesningen vil være en presentasjon av prosjektet og workshopen. "My sunshine" ble blant annet utstilt på Venezia-biennalen.
